The four-day Freshers Orientation programme for first-year undergraduate students at C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) Navrongo officially commenced on January 14, 2025. It welcomed the freshers to campus with a blend of encouragement, information, and essential tips for success.
The orientation programme, from January 14th to 17th, aimed to familiarise students with university life, academic expectations, and campus facilities while providing vital information on personal safety and academic success. The event opened with a welcome address from the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Albert Luguterah, who encouraged students to make the most of their time at CKT-UTAS and emphasized that their admission was not by chance but a privilege. He urged them to embrace hard work and commitment to excel in their academic journey.
Other senior management members who attended the opening ceremony included the Registrar, Mr. Gilbert Ansoglenang, the Director of Finance, Mr. Anab Anaamoatulim, and the Dean of Students, Prof. Ohene Bonsi Apea. They all expressed their excitement about the new academic year and the potential of the freshers to contribute to the university’s future.
Following the opening address, the orientation continued over the next three days with various sessions designed to prepare students for their academic and social experiences. These sessions included talks on study skills and time management, equipping students with the tools needed to thrive in their courses and meet deadlines effectively.
A key topic delivered during the orientation was sexual harassment awareness, where students were educated on their rights and the university’s zero-tolerance policy on any form of harassment. The Code of Conduct session was also well received, ensuring that students understood the expected behaviour both in and outside the classroom.
In addition to academic and behavioural guidance, the freshers received practical safety tips. Sessions on campus security and fire safety were incorporated to ensure students feel safe and secure in their new environment. The WiSTEM (Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programme was also introduced, promoting gender equality and encouraging female students to pursue careers in STEM fields.
With academic guidance and practical safety information, the orientation sought to provide first-year students with all the resources they would require to successfully transition into their new university life. As the Freshers Orientation came to a close on January 17th, the new students left the programme with a deeper understanding of university expectations, the support systems available, and a greater sense of excitement for the year ahead.
In a related development, the School of Graduate Studies and Research (SGSR) also held a four-day orientation for newly enrolled postgraduate students. The programme, which took place from January 20th to 23rd, 2025, was designed to equip postgraduate students with the necessary knowledge and resources to succeed in their advanced studies.
