A 3-day Pre-Congregation Seminar has been held to equip faculty and staff of the C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) with succession planning, vision and mission statements, reports, minutes, and memo writing skills. It took place from Wednesday 22nd – Friday 24th June 2022 at the NH1 Building, CKT-UTAS Campus, Navrongo.
The event which was organised by the University Relations Office under the auspices of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor marks the beginning of a series initiated by the former. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eric Magnus Wilmot, and the Registrar, Dr. V. A. Ankamah-Lomotey facilitated the various sessions.
Speaking on the topics ‘Succession planning, Vision and Mission statements for Heads of Department, Sections, and Units’, Professor Wilmot elucidated that effective succession planning was a requirement for the periodic institutional reviews conducted by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). He bemoaned the absence of a succession planning culture at the CKT-UTAS, noting that the current practice merely involved a review of CVs to find suitable replacements.
The Vice-Chancellor also underscored the importance of succession planning which in his view “is necessary for smooth operations without truncation or needless interruptions.”
Both Professor Wilmot and Dr. Ankamah-Lomotey took turns to answer questions from the audience as well as provide deeper insights into the thematic areas.
In attendance were Heads of departments, Sections, Units, and a cross-section of Senior members and Senior staff.
