A cross-section of University Management led by the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Samson Abagale, has honoured an invitation by the Students Representative Council (SRC) to participate in an open forum organised for the general student body. The event, which was held on Wednesday, January 29th, 2025, at NH1, attracted participants from all levels, schools, and programmes of study.
The Student Representative Council President, Mr. Wajah Kofi Barnabas, welcomed University Management and stated the purpose of the gathering, which, inter alia, aimed to afford students the opportunity to channel their concerns and grievances to Management in a less formal environment.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor, who represented the Vice-Chancellor noted that students were key stakeholders in University administration, thus assuring them that Management had prioritised students’ welfare and would take the necessary steps to address their concerns and needs. He admitted that infrastructural deficits and/or inadequacies including inadequate lecture halls and hostel facilities could pose a challenge to effective teaching, learning, and research. “These challenges notwithstanding, CKT-UTAS boasts of world-class teaching and non-teaching staff who are committed to training students who would compete favourably on the job market and help develop the larger society,” Prof. Abagale added.
Other members of the University Management Team including the Registrar, Mr. Gilbert Ansoglenang, took turns to answer questions and clarify issues raised by participants at the forum. Most of the concerns centered on school fees, examinations, and students’ general welfare. The Leadership of the SRC is expected to present a communique to Management for further consideration.
